Keeping our community safe |

With South Derbyshire experiencing torrential rain and strong winds over the last few days, several roads in the local area have sustained flooding and fallen trees today, (Friday 6 February).
Frustratingly, police also received reports of vehicles ignoring road safety warnings, entering flood water and becoming stranded.
Within moments of the shift commencing your local officer was called to attend a report of a fallen tree, near Newton Solney.
Community-spirited tree surgeons approached police and volunteered to help clear branches and debris, all ensuring this busy road was opened quickly, enabling local people to get to work and school.
And this afternoon, police received information about inconsiderate drivers hurtling through flood water on Main Street, Repton, causing waves which were impacting local homes and properties. Aware of the problem, several local volunteers and residents stepped up to help.
A huge thank you to Repton's flood warden team who helped keep motorists safe, while Derbyshire County Council's highways department and locals worked hard to clear blocked culverts and drains on the road.
In an era when some people are quick to criticise, it was lovely to see so many people going out of their way in very wet weather to protect properties, clear flood water and remove fallen trees.
On behalf of Mercia Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT), we are very thankful for your hard work in keeping our community safe.
